How we support job seekers

Your Journey With Us...

  • Before your first appointment with us, you can expect a quick "warm call".
  • You will have your first appointment (see letter for date and time) with one of our experienced caseworkers consisting of a one-to-one meeting to get things up and running
  • We'll take the time to discuss your circumstances, ambitions and personal job goals
  • Together, we'll review your CV and past experience
  • We will then arrange for you to meet our Employer Services team to learn about our 700+ live roles and our relationships with local and national employers
  • You'll get an overview of our range of services including training, online webinars, peer groups, information sessions and our digital technology
  • You'll also get the chance to view our facilities, including our PC banks, which are available for you to drop-in and use outside appointment times

  • What is Turas Nua Employability?

    The Employability Service helps people who have a disability, injury, or illness find and keep a job. We offer lots of support to both jobseekers and employers. Our Job Coaches work with you to make sure everyone’s needs are met.


    This service is run by local organisations on behalf of the Department of Social Protection (DSP). Turas Nua provides the Employability Service in Kildare, Laois, Longford, Offaly, Waterford, and Westmeath. If you need support in these areas, Turas Nua is here to help with advice and guidance to find the right job for you.

  • Who is eligible for Employability?

    To use the Employability Service, you need to be between 18 and 65 years old, ready to work, and need support finding and keeping a job. 


    Being "job ready" means you have the training, education, motivation, and ability to work. We are here to help you build your confidence, improve your skills, and find the job that's right for you.

  • I receive a disability payment. Will I lose this if I start working?

    It’s possible to keep all or part of your disability payment while working, depending on how many hours you work each week and your personal situation. 


    We can give you independent advice about how your benefits might change if you start a job. The minimum number of hours you need to work is 8 hours per week, but you can look for either part-time or full-time work based on what suits you best.

  • I don’t receive a disability payment. Can you still help me find work?

    Yes, we can. If you have a disability and need help to find a job, we’re here to support you.

  • How does Employability help jobseekers?

    How the EmployAbility Service Supports You:

    • Ongoing support for both you and your employer.
    • A professional job-matching service to find the right role for you.
    • Advice on additional employment supports and benefits.

    Career and Employment Support:

    • Help with identifying your skills and finding a job.
    • Assistance with job applications and matching your skills to employer needs.
    • Support in adjusting to your workplace once you start a job.
    • Advice on benefits and entitlements.

    How a Job Coach Can Help:

    • They assist before and after you get a job.
    • They help identify your skills, interests, and match you to the right job.
    • They provide guidance on any supports you may need in the role.

  • What if I get sick?

    Employers understand that everyone, including those with disabilities, may need time off due to illness. If you can’t go to work, just follow your employer’s rules for reporting your absence.

  • What can I expect to get paid?

    You can expect to receive at least the minimum wage, along with the same rights and entitlements as other employees, in line with employment laws.

  • Do I have to pay to use the Employability Service?

    No, using the EmployAbility Service is completely free. You won’t have to pay for any of the support you receive.


    When you get a job through this service, you’ll have the same rights as any other employee. Your employer will pay your salary, and you’ll agree on the terms of employment just like everyone else.


    What grants and supports are available?


    The Department of Social Protection (DSP) provides several supports to help people with disabilities get and keep a job.
